Hi ALL !
Had a pleasant trip to Tirupati and Tirumala.
I like Tirumala (the abode of Lord Venkateswara/Balaji) because you are at once close to the maddening crowd and yet far from it. The weather God was kind and I enjoyed the view of rain bearing clouds caressing the mountain tops (as if giving a shampoo bath !) and engulfing the tall trees with misty white blanket as they moved slowly and gracefully towards the east. At the same time there was only a mild drizzle (no heavy downpour). And yes, there were birds chirping their heads off in the wilderness ! Another big yes to whether I walked barefoot on grass !
We snatched a few minutes to see one of the wind turbines atop the hill which provided 1 MW (1.25MW to be precise) power. It is one of the 6 wind turbines (each provides 1.25MW) set up by a Pune based company named Suzlon.

Tirumala is turning green in energy generation also. Visit the Suzlon site and learn more about how they are powering a greener tomorrow. Also learn more about S 64 -1.25 MW or download the brochure from here.
I liked their tagline : "Born in India, Embracing the world"
I particularly liked their selection of "embracing" instead of "conquering" !
I got some specifications of the wind turbine from the site : Rated power, Cut-in Wind speed, rated wind speed, cut-of / cut-out wind speed, survival wind speed. Lot to learn !
My favorite place to eat out has always been Hotel Mayura where we all enjoyed a happy meal and started off to Bengaluru for a five day stay. Curd is provided in mini clay pots which looked aesthetically appealing.
One of the major challenges faced by engineers worldwide today is providing cheap and renewable energy. Solar power, wind power, wave power are all environmental friendly and are slowly becoming viable. This means more work for more intelligent minds...that is you ! Even as we lead our daily lives wasting valuable resources, many companies are adventuring into this area taking risks, raising hope, losing money, gaining experience...and finally when it becomes viable, all these heroes may be forgotten unsung, unwept..and we may see one huge company trying to monopolise everything ! History will repeat itself ? Lets wish these heroes best of the future.
Suzlon started in 1995 with 20 people and today has 14,000 people in 21 countries ! It is today the 3rd largest wind power company in the world. Today, using the concepts of vertical integration and global integration, Suzlon is surging ahead.

So, why Suzlon ?
Suzlon is a very western sounding name for an Indian company. The origin of the name of this wind energy company is very much Indian. ‘Suz’ in Suzlon, comes from the Gujarati word ‘suz-bhuz’, meaning intelligence and ‘lon’ — a Gujarati way of pronouncing the English word ‘loan’. The company was founded by Tulsi R. Tanti, a.k.a Windman, age 51 years a Gujarati businessman from Rajkot who is among the top ten Indian businessmen.
The story goes that the Tanti family who were into textiles. The family conducted their business with lot of ‘suz-bhuz’ and ‘loan’. When Tanti ventured into the wind energy business in the 1990s, he chose this interesting name for his new-age company.
- Why Suzlon ? is courtesy Senjam Raj Sekhar
Mr. Tulsi R. Tanti has led from the front to transform Suzlon into the world's third and India's leading wind turbine manufacturer. Mr. Tanti has driven Suzlon not as a business, but as a cause – contributing to the world by creating sustainable social, economic and ecological development, by using the very best of technology to help mitigate the global climate crisis.
