How important it is to first study the specifications of a component to be used was brought out today. Also, the kind of mistakes one makes in the lab - like wondering why the output is not coming when the circuit is correct (power supply is not switched on ! :) ) came to light.
The NTC thermistor showed a linear Temp vs Resistance characteristic after connecting in the circuit shown above. However, the characteristics must suit a particular application for it to be functionally acceptable. This must always be kept in mind when designing circuits.
A simple example is a paper weight. In a room where there is no breeze, an empty audio cassette case can perform the function of a paper weight. However, the same case fails to do the function when there is a heavy draft of air across the room.
Beginners to design usually forget this fact- and usually learn through experience ...provided they dont give up early. Tenacity and patience are two virtues of a designer in the making.
I decided to involve some more people into this activity. So, we are now testing the LDR circuit separately, ADC circuit separately and the LM35 circuit separately.
Today, we decided to buy some more sensors and actuators for testing. Reed Switches, button microphones (out of stock yesterday).
In a few more days, we should be ready with a few sensors, an analog multiplexer AD7501 etc etc.
More about it later...
Enjoy getting wet in the rain
