Collaboration - need of the hour

I was busy last few days looking at the performance of students during the second semester examinations. Also, I has a first look at the second year students.

There is an urgent need for each and every one to realise the need to pursue excellence (to whatever extent possible). We have to understand that this can be done only through the systemic benefits offered by collaborative learning. I am able to clearly visualise (from the results) that students who do not form part of 'healthy' groups, are falling by the wayside.

As we speak to parents very often the responsibility is more on the class viewed as a group. A class , as a whole, MUST endeavor to usher in positive thought building process, practise competence building tasks, seek help where needed, walk that extra mile to improve, extend a helping hand to those who are in need.

Collective goals are difficult to set unless done with lot of imagination, creativity and unabated enthusiasm.
Students must strive to test their leadership skills by trying to impose positive thoughts , practises and programs on students of their class.

What a class can do ? Class as a system must create a mechanism to receive inputs (knowledge resources : from teacher, internet, books, CDs, etc etc) , perform some sort of filtering, processes the filtered inputs such that they are assimilated by each and every student in the class - depend on the individual capacity ( knowledge impedance matching !) that ensures maximum knowledge transfer.

The system today is operating  with too many contraints  and as a student , whatever little  you can do to push the sytem in the right direction - helps.

After all, a better student contributes to a better class... a better department...a better college...
